Ranging from school districts to mass transit systems, EDIs clients rely on their environmental and asbestos-related expertise for the hundreds of projects they complete every year.
Jay Murray, Owner of Environmental Design, Inc., has been in business in the New Jersey Tri-State area since 1995, providing environmental consulting services to clients across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
"After serving in the United States Air Force, I began working for a company in the asbestos related industry," said Jay, "and eventually, I decided to open my own business." As a Veteran and a small business owner, Jay Murray and EDI are a part of an elite group of veteran-owned small businesses registered through the U.S. Government with the Certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) program.
Government Paperwork Made Easier with ConstructionSuite
One of Environmental Design's larger clients is SEPTA, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. SEPTA is the leading transportation authority providing public transportation to the Philadelphia area, which include countless subways, trains, trolleys, and buses, some of which operate underground and through tunnels.
Working with SEPTA is a very unique and exciting example of the work EDI does every day. "Who else gets to walk down a subway in the pitch dark with trains whizzing by?" said Jay. Not only is it exciting, but it's also very important work. Environmental Design, Inc. (EDI) handles SEPTA's asbestos related projects.
"We have to provide cost estimates to SEPTA, so if they are going to do station renovations, EDI will go out and perform asbestos and lead paint inspection work ahead of the construction, and then provide reports on the assessment," said Jay.
"This is the reason we bought your software, said Jay. "Since this is a federal contract, it requires customized cost estimates. In ConstructionSuite, we have customized our own template with project manager rates and lab analysis rates, and we just have to email it to them for approval. ConstructionSuite works very well for us."
EDI uses three licenses of ConstructionSuite Premier, which includes UDA Estimating, OnPlan Scheduling, OnPoint Documents & Contracts, as well as QuickBooks Integration and multi-user capabilities, which allow users the ability to work together and share data. "All three of us that use the software here in the office work off the same data and that data is updated dynamically. It's very easy to use," said Jay.
ConstructionSuite helps EDI manage their business on a daily basis, making them both more efficient and profitable. "The software helps us keep track of both projects and project status," said Jay, "we also use it for proposals and to keep track of our contacts."
As with most government related projects, there is a great deal of paperwork required, SEPTA projects are no different. "I have 15 project folders at the moment with bills for a SEPTA project," said Jay, "ConstructionSuite helps us keep track of all of these project numbers and dates, whereas before we were doing this manually. Now, I can just put the information into the estimate and bill for it. ConstructionSuite makes the process much easier."
